Best laid plans

meirwen_1988Well, Boy and Duchezz have gone back to work. My noble aspirations of excavating various rooms during my week off have been cancelled by the lovely monster of bronchitis that has taken up residence in my chest, so I'm just coughing, reading, coughing, drinking tea, coughing...well, you get the gist of it.
Christmas was a hit all around I think. I know I was jazzed. My big prezzie from the D was a gift certificate and trip to Build-a-Bear, scheduled for Jan. 29. The boy gave me something I've wanted FOREVER--a lovely pearl solitaire necklace with a diamond embellisher on the hoop. Absolutely beautiful. There are also new Star Trek (Kirk and Spock exiting the Guardian of Forever and Enterprise NCC-1701A) ornaments on our tree. The boy liked his new tunics, and Duchezz was very jazzed by the Sleeping Beauty Snow Globe music box (most importantly, Aurora's dress changes color, just like in the movie). Boy also liked his Combat! Season 1 DVDs, and Duchezz got season one of The Muppet Show. I got the Cinderella 50th Anniversary special edition DVD package--lovely lithos, stuffed mice.... I have to figure out which litho to get framed for my office at school (since we do 5 Cinderella stories at the beginning of 102).
The goose was a hit, and the black currant sauce was proclaimed a real keeper--we're thinking about trying the leftover sauce on a pork loin or chops this week. We splurged at Williams and Sonoma and bought a really good quality bundt pan and their Meyer Lemon cake mix. Wow! Very yummy, and made a gorgeous presentation on the cake plate.
All in all, nice weekend, capped by going to see Narnia yesterday. Morguhn really enjoyed it (if the snuffling sounds were anything to go by). I think it is an excellent film, with amazing CGI (the griffins were amazing), but I was never able to get "involved" in it. I suspect it was because I'm sick and half the time was trying desperately not to cough. The scenes at the beginning, however, give a real sense of perspective about how good we have it right now. Note to self: do not be reverse reincarnated to live in London 1940-1942.
