Two cars stolen--while alarms were armed. Check.
One SCA friend dead. Check.
Two friends from high school dead. Check.
Two friends' fathers dead. Check.
One friend has iPhone stolen out of her hand and local metro PD add insult to injury. Check.
One of dearest friends falls down stairs, seriously injuring head, shoulder, and very badly ankle. Check.
Beloved friend's father is in hospital, another's mother is undergoing chemotherapy, and another's mother is drifting into the long twilight of Alzheimer's. Check.

1) 2011 is so fired!
2) Does anyone have GOOD news???

Darius rocked his report card so INCREDIBLY hard that we are planning to take him & a friend to laser tag next weekend. (from 5 Bs and 2 As last quarter to a B+ and EIGHT As this time!) He actually HAS a friend to play with *locally* now. Also his behavior at home has improved so much that he has kept access to the Wii since his birthday. (Not only doing his daily jobs but bringing me room service when I'm too tired to even want food! DUDE!)

Well, it's not quite on the level of illness and death, but I've lost 30 pounds since September, and my hips don't hurt anymore. Only 22 more pounds to goal. One of my dearest friends, widowed five years ago, is getting married at the end of April to a wonderful guy who loves her madly. Life is cyclical, for better or for worse. Keep the faith, sweetie.

I was recently told to be glad that there are no riots or chaos when I leave my h house. I suspect that just now I could enjoy a good riot, but I am lucky enough to have the coolest friends in the world.
Some t tell me they love me, some tell me I'm good, some give my perspective a good kick in the pants.

Eh. It's good to have something to complain about.

My wood carving keeps getting better, and I got to spend time walking with a good friend today. My son got well yesterday, and I'm off to Estrella on Tuesday to relax andsee some old friends. My wife loves me, my son is thriving...and yet...I need to concentrate on those things to not dwell on the welfare and health of my family and friends.

My grandson is adorable. I was converted into a Lay-Z-Boy last night as he crashed out after dinner while watching Blues Clues. I had to sit there and let him snooze on top of me for 1-1/2 hours. Despite some grumpies from teething earaches, he is still a happy little boy.

Yep, my stepdaughter had baby boy in July. You can surf pics of him in my Facebook photos. Be prepared to be awed by the cuteness.

(Really, there are lots of people in their 40s who are grandparents. My mom managed it in her late 30s.)
