Yeah, but that suggests that I would be a Liberal and a Democrat, and I am not either by any measurable modern standard.

You can absolutely be concerned with those things, and work actively on those issues, but not see government as the mechanism by which success is achieved. The Founder of the Democratic Party himself would completely agree with that aims of that statement, and furiously speak out against the outright Federalist methods employed by today's Democrats.

I was going to note that the popular definitions for the terms "liberal" and "conservative" have mutated considerably in the last 40-50 years. Like the icon.;)
