The worst part is that they think it will level the playing field.

What pisses me of is that cops have reached an exalted status, and I don't see where that is helping us.

GUN GEEK MODE

Sorry. Thought you were talking about cops with assault weapons, which nothing good will come of either. The military uses automatics and ones that do three round bursts.

Well, I would like to point out a few things:
- First, a lot of things on that list were 'stupid youth tricks', I don't think people should be damned forever for getting caught smoking pot or brawling. Not to mention, the strict discipline of the military might actually help a lot of them

- Second, is it really so bad to have people like this in more controlled envirionments, possibly even in combat situations where they can give back to the country, and use then aggressive tendancies in a battle field?

- Third, it may be a good opportunity for a bit of reform with the ROTC programs and the tech training and such that they have available. This way when they get out of the military, they have trades/skills/education to fall back on.

I am not saying it is perfect, but there is another side to all of this. Most people heading into military service are young, and most young enough to get turned around with some discipline and options as well as a change in environment.
