When I finished this book my immediate thought was "I'm gonna punch Elizabeth Moon right in the nose!"
Let me explain.
I made an assumption. The Tale of Paksenarrion was three books long. This series is set in Paks's world. I assumed it would be three books long. Not.
So I got to the end of the book (which actually dragged for me for the first third, and then picked up again to the level of the first two volumes), and realized about 2 chapters from the end "She can't possibly finish this in two chapters." And then...and THEN the last chapter....
Okay, I don't want to give any spoilers, and those who've read my reviews of the first two in the Paladin's Legacy series (Kings of the North and Oath of Fealty) should know that I don't like this volume as much as those two. That said, the last page of this book was stunning--and may have the most effective closing line I've ever read.
Damn my impatience--I bought it as soon as it came out in hardcover. Now I have to wait for the next volume. If she keeps to her usual schedule, that means about a year.
Patience, Grasshopper.
