Lazy Saturday
Oct. 27th, 2007 12:46 pmThe mates are off to the fight practice in PA. The part of me that has been missing my friends wishes I was going, too. But I chose to stay home for a variety of reasons, all of them good.
Last night we went out to dinner together--which was mostly good. I managed to eat yummy food and not feel guilty about it. Then we went to the Inauguration Ceremony and Lecture for the new college president. They invited David Brancaccio (formerly host of NPR's Marketplace and currently host of PBS's Now!) to speak, and then he and the Prez sat down (cute little set on the side of the stage) and had a discussion/Q&A, then they opened it up to the audience. Very different than the usual blather you get at this sort of thing. Very nice. Actually had the feel of a higher education extracurricular gathering.
They had it in our gorgeous new theatre--snacks before; desserts after. It was lovely, tasteful, appropriately intellectual while being friendly and frequently funny in a thoughtful way. They'd sent out these gorgeous invitations to the college community and special guests, then, last week put full page ads in the local paper inviting the Mohawk Valley residents to come, for FREE.
Needless to say the auditorium was about 2/3 full and they didn't need to open the balcony.
I live in the land of morons--and apparently work with quite a few. My frustration is...oh well. This is my happy Saturday, when I answer to no one, can be productive and domestic, pet my puppy, cuddle my kitty. I shall not be grumpy. I shall allow myself to miss my family (those in PA, those in the Western part of the state), and that is all the down I am allowed today.
I'm in hopes that I'll be able to get caught up with school today, maybe do some baking. Maybe finish the packing of warm weather clothes and unpacking/ironing/freshening of cold weather attire. I shall watch Diana Rigg, and Captain Jack, and perhaps some of the Count via Hammer, and all will be well.
They will come home tomorrow and I shall try to be appropriately sympathetic when Ro's boys get pummeled. crushed. annihilated. by Indy. I shall try not to pout as the 'Skins get completely humiliated by the New England juggernaut, and try to cheer the Boy with murmurs of "Maybe the Pack will beat the Broncos--don't lose hope, love." And if the Bears lose to the Lions, I will hold my head high and say "There's always the 2008 season."
But that is tomorrow. Today is my happy Saturday.
Geez--I might even knit!
