In which our heroine smiles

Well, after a weekend of being antisocial, I popped my head into the blogosphere (about as social as I feel right now), and there I found a lovely post, from a talented woman.

It makes me smile. Like so many people who live "on the edges" of mainstream American mores, politics, and culture, there's a teensy-tiny bit of this blog's author that is a smidgen condescending towards more conventional types. I see it in my friends, I see it in myself from time to time. It's not noble, and usually it is grounded in a defense mechanism. But it is not a good thing. And sometimes we get those assumptions thrown back at us.

Sometimes that throwback catches us up short in a painful way, forcing us to open our eyes in shock and pain and see the complexity of those we sometimes undervalue. Here, the eyes are opened with surprise and delight. It's a lovely story.

Thank you, Ursula, for sharing.
